The two tall headstones to the right in the photo are for the graves of Capt. William Heath, Sr. and his wife Hannah (Allen) Heath. In spite of the fact that this cemetery is almost lost in the deep woods of Mt. Desert Island, Veteran Day flags are still placed on the grave of Capt. Heath, a veteran of the Revolutionary War.

Heath, Hannah (Allen) 1768-1854

ERECTED
To the fond memory of
HANNAH HEATH
wife of the late
William Heath, Esq.
who died July 29, 1854
AE. 86 yrs.

She was the daughter of Nehemiah
& Elizabeth Allen; was born in Beverly
Mass. 1768 married to Wm. Heath
a Soldier of the revolution 1786, &
settled on Mount Desert 1789 where
after passing a long and useful life,
she fell asleep with the hope of a
reunion and glorious immortality.

"I go to prepare a place for you, that when
I am there, ye may be also." They meet
husband and wife to part no more,
Within that house, not made with hands,
on the celestial shore.

Dear mother thou art gone to rest,
And this shall be our prayer:
That when we reach our journey's end
thy glory we may share.

Heath, William Sr. 1764-1840

In memory of
WILLIAM HEATH, ESQ.
A worthy soldier of the
American Revolution,
who died Sept. 6, A.D. 1840
Leaving a widow and six
children to mourn the loss
of a beloved husband
and kind parent.

For we know if our earthly house
of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have
a building of God, an house not made
with hands, eternal in the heavens.

How sleep the brave, who sink to rest
By all their country's wishes blest!
